What a week this is…

We saw Elmo’s Green Thumb on Saturday and of course Elmo gave a stellar performance as usual. Nick, Simon, and Brendan seemed to have a great time; I have to say I was a bit nervous being with three 5 year olds but they were so great and it also helped that Mike and Kevin (Brendan’s dad) were also there with us and Simon’s mom and baby sister were in the Aud as well.

We went out to dinner to the International Buffet in Greece Ridge with Bob on Saturday night and then walked the mall afterwards. We all had a great time; Nick loves walking the mall as I also do, Bob was thrilled that we took him to the mall and a buffet of course, and Mike got to buy something which also made him happy.

On Sunday we had to go to Nicolette’s fifth birthday party at The Jump Club and not only did Nick have a great time so did I. I loved talking with the other parents there while we just watched the kids all have a great time. After talking it over Mike and I decided that we would also have Nick’s birthday as well, I think we decided to go very small on the family party this year so we could have a party with his class…it just seemed that turning five is so huge and seeing how much fun all the kids had it just seems right that he celebrates with kids his own age…I think I might be compensating for the fact he’s an only child.

I took off from work on Monday and Tuesday this week to catch up on homework and to write a 10 page paper. Nick is off from the JCC due to Passover on Tuesday and mom was great enough to watch him overnight so I can concentrate on my paper…what a GREAT mom she is!!! I also have off on Friday because my company is shut down for Good Friday; how crazy is this I am probably the most anti religious person I know and I have off for the Jewish and Catholic holidays…crazy, I know.

Nick’s preschool class ends on June 25th so we need to find out where to send him for the summer months until he can go back in the fall to Gesher so today we checked out another daycare center that I think we might just sign him up for. It sounded like a pretty good place which is so different to what he is in now on so many levels. They aren’t as structured, they go on weekly field trips, they let the kids decide what activities they want to sign up for on that day, and it’s only for about 8 weeks.

Yahoo!!! It’s the freakin’ weekend!!!! Mike and I out to happy hour tonight and after this week I use a little happy, happy if ya know what I mean. Nick will be spending the evening at grandma’s place. Tomorrow (Sayurday) we are going to see Elmo’s Green Thumb with two of Nick’s friends and their parents should be a great time. I have off from work on Monday and Tuesday so I can play catch up on school work; I have to write a research paper on of all things “The Socialogical Effects of Social Networks,” I’m sure there are plenty of people I can interview for this one starting with myself.

Have a great weekend!!

As RuPaul would say “If you can’t love yourself how the hell are you gonna love anyone else! Can I get an Amen!”

What a happy feeling

I found out that not only do I correct Nick when he says something wrong but he also corrects us when we say something wrong. We try to watch what we say but sometimes when we tell a story to each other (MIke & I) we may swear, and if Nick is within ear shot of it he will yell at us and tell us that “we don’t say shit” or whatever the word may be. So at least I know that he knows swearing is wrong. The other day when went to call him I yelled out “hey.” He looked at my with the sternest look and said “do you see anyone around here eating hay?” With a stunned look on my face I said “well, no.” his reply was “that’s right, there isn’t and we don’t say hey because that is rude.” I haven’t said “hey” since.

We walked into the auditorium at CRPS last night and heard a bunch of kids yell out “Nicholas!” Next thing I know Nick goes running to the front of the place and starts hugging all these kids. It was registration night for kindergarten and these other kids were from the JCC that he plays with daily. After seeing that and talking with some other parents there it totally put my mind at ease that everything would be fine; he has a lot of friends, he seems to be popular, the parents are really nice to us, the teachers were great with us and Nick. I think a lot of my fears, even though this is just kindergarten, just went right out the window.

Today also marks the five year anniversary of the day we received the call from the adoption agency saying we have been chosen by a birthmother. The exuberant feeling that we had that day is so unexplainable. Lisa, the agency councelor, told us that the baby would be born in about 8 weeks. I remember from that point onwards our life has never been the same again and its been one adventure after another and as worn out as I may get at times I still would never change anything about it.

Tomorrow we are going to Kelly and Chris’ house for dinner with Shannon and her son Brenndan. We have really been looking forward to it; Nick also has been looking forward to it so he can play with Simon, and Brenndan.

This morning when Nick woke up he told he really misses Grandma. I told him maybe we’ll stop over and see her tonight as she has a girls weekend going on and we won’t see her otherwise. Nex Saturday evening he will be sleeping over there while Mike and I go out with some friends from my high school days.

Daylight savings this weekend the first day of Spring next weekend…YAHOO…Winter is almost over!

The longest month is the shortest month

Waaaaaaaa (that’s me crying), my baby is growing up way too quickly! We have to go to the school district next week to register him for Kindergarten. I am very happy for him and very sad at the same time; his journey in life began with him being dependant upon us for everything and now as the journey continues he is becoming less dependant and moving to be an independent little man; the irony of it all, though I’m sure secretly he will always come to us for help to now he still is in need.

We entered the raffle for the Easter Egg Roll in Washington DC last week and were very hopeful and then all our dreams and hopes got crushed this morning when we found out that we lost. Alright they really weren’t crushed but we were seriously hoping to go to the White House, oh well we’ll do a local one instead and pretend that Michelle is waving to us and giving us a wink from across the lawn and Barrack is saying to us “hey as long as your in town stop over later for dinner, love to have you.” Of course we would return the wink and wave to Michelle with a toss of our head as we chuckle and to Barrack the answer would we wouldn’t miss it for the world and we’ll bring the dessert…after all they are the first couple.

Last Thursday evening Nick went over to Grandmas house for a few hours and Mike and I went out to Good Luck for drinks with Shannon, Kelly, and Chris (they are the parents of 2 of the kids that Nick goes to school with). The night was really good, we were kind of nervous at first but no more did we sit down and they made us feel extremely welcome; the conversation and company couldn’t have been any better. We compared stories of our kids and I was amazed to find that the three of them are all on the same page as far as attitude, development, and so on. My amazement comes only because when I speak with his teachers they don’t tell me what other kids do, only what Nick does so I was happy to see other kids do the same thing.

That night and the following couple of days we got a ton of snow dumped on us about 1.5 feet and we spent the next few days shoveling out and it wasn’t a light fluffy snow it was a real heavy snow that just about broke your back to lift. At the same time it was really pretty to see, Mike and I stayed home from work and we kept Nick home from school as well. It was an excellent surprise day off just like when I was a kid getting a snow day.

We had a nice visit this month with Kathy, Fae, and Zack; we met at Red Lobster (Nick calls it the Crab) and as always it was great to see them and catch up a bit in person, we are hoping to make a trek up there to see them as soon as the weather breaks and turns warmer.

Earlier this month a lot of friends that I had living in other parts of the country got the day off due to snow storms, I felt rather left out only because w haven’t had one (yet) and about 9:30 in the morning I got a call from the JCC saying that they had a water main break and that they had to shut the place down. I couldn’t of been any happier, I left work and picked up Nick and we went out shopping for a couple hours, then came home ate lunch, Nick played and I bought some chairs for the dining room that I was putting together. I love surprise days off…as long as the surprise is a good reason for me that is.

February 5th we got to see Kathy Griffin at RIT and I have to say we laughed our asses off; she was so hilarious, I would so see her again if given the chance. Nick slept at Grandmas house and as normal loved it. I had a cold and Mike had hurt his knee so the two of us made quite the couple that night; with a wind chill of almost zero we managed our way across campus, Mike shuffling along and my nose running off my face. We were planning on going out afterwards but I felt like poop so we decided to go home. It didn’t matter because the company was good and so was the entertainment.

So far classes this semester have been horrendous I can’t say that I’ve had a decent break from it yet as soon as I finish homework on one class I am starting it on another, once I finish an exam on one class I am studying for another. I haven’t had two classes like this in a very long time. MIS is an accelerated class and that one is half over and then the work load will at least be less exhausting. I’m still trying to decide if I want to take two classes this summer or just one. I love going to school and learning new things and I always tell Nick that school is cool, but I am starting to have a dislike for it now at least the time constraints…I had to quit Farm Town.

Here are a few funny things that Nick has presented us with this month, I like to call Nickism.

Nick asks as a matter of fact, of course “when are we getting another baby?” After I spat my food across the room expecting a different question, we gently explained to him there wasn’t a snowballs chance in hell for that one ever happening. But thinking that would end the conversation a few days later again he says “so when is the new baby coming.” Here we go again.

As I’m leaving the house one morning Nicholas tells me “work hard for me today!” My only comeback was a Donna Summer song… She works hard for the money so hard for it honey. She works hard for the money so you better treat her right.

I am so amazed that at the sweet tender age of 4 going on 5 everything in life is boring and he feels the need to argue with me about everything.

I am very impressed that he knows everything, no matter what I say to him his come back answer to me is “I already know that!”

I try to encourage Nick by telling him “you can do anything you want to.” Apparently I need to rephrase that statement what I meant to say was “no matter what happens in life you can achieve and accomplish anything.” The first statement he took so literal that when I told him not to do something his response back to me was “I can do anything I want to,” well I did tell him…
