This past weekend we finally finished painting Nicky’s bedroom, which in my opinion came out so cool, it took us about three weeks to paint and worth every minute to see the final project. He totally loves it and can’t wait now till we finish his playroom. Hopefully that one will be a lot quicker than the bedroom although we don’t have too many ideas for that room.
Got a call from Bob a couple weeks ago and told me he had an early birthday present for Nicky; ticket to see “When Elmo Grows Up” at the Auditorium Theatre on the 21st. I had wanted to take Nick but didn’t have a chance to get tickets for it, thank goodness for Bob. It was Nick’s first live performance and he loved the entire show…oh yeah the cotton candy was a huge hit also but Elmo, he was way better. Nicky decided he wants to be a dragon when he grows up, defiantly more adventurous than what we do for a living.
Afterwards we took Bob out for Chinese which broke our diets, however delicious and worth every moment of getting up all night to get a glass of water to rehydrate myself from the salty feeling I had from dinner.
When we finished with dinner we went shopping to pick up a couple of electric heaters, which of course were no where to be found. The control panel in our furnace went out and needed to be replaced so we spent most of the weekend away from the house where the temperatures were between 55 and 66, yes brrrrr was the phrase of the day until Monday afternoon when the man came to replace the panel and “Viola!” we had heat again.
First of all happy first day of spring!!
With Nicky birthday happening in about 6 weeks I need to start planning. We decided not to do a kiddie party this year and possibly do it next year for his 5th birthday. This morning at breakfast Mike had asked what he wanted for his birhtday, he came out with “a rabbit,” I asked him earlier in the week and the answer I got wasn’t too much different.
He is starting to switch his birthday ideas from toys to things that are living and breathing; a mole, a bird, a cat, a rabbit, I think we will, in time, be home to a mini zoo. I told him once he stops wearing pull ups at night he can have a cat…he was dry again this morning. BTW I’m not a cat person, I don’t remember to feed the fish or the dog or water the plants, do we really need another pet or another house plant?
Just found out that the preschool will be having a graduation in June and that Nicky will be starting PreK in July along with the other kids in his class. We are very excited for him. He absolutely loves the preschool that he is in; they have a ton of activates, swimming, gym, outdoor’s each day, plus they have a lot of classroom time so learning is a big priority there as well. I’m trying to talk him into being a lawyer as no one ever sues a lawyer.
I can’t believe that he will be four in another 6+ weeks; the time has gone by so fast it amazes me and the transformation in him is totally wild. Still undecided where to have his birthday party, we have been considering having one for his school mates and one for family, I better hurry as time is drawing near.
Don’t be too fooled by the headline. Today marks the fourth anniversary that we got the call from the AdoptHelp Agency that we were chosen to be the adoptive parents and that a baby boy would be born in eight weeks. We couldn’t of been anymore excited. Then it finally hit us hours later that there would be a baby arriving in eight weeks we almost passed out because we weren’t even ready except for a crib and a teddy bear. If there’s one thing we know about that is shopping. And shopping we did with the help of my mom who was visiting at the time we managed to get just about everything we needed except patience…we were extremely nervous and couldn’t wait for everything to happen.
And when it did, I now have to say I wouldn’t change a thing; Nick has been the apple of my eye ever since. He has definatly humbled me on more than one occasion and I’m certain it won’t ever end.
All last week I kept on telling Nicky to open his mouth real wide. We were practicing for his first dentist appointment that he had this past Saturday morning. Everything went great, the dentist came in looked at his teeth and said they were all straight and that we were doing a perfect job brushing as they were so white. The hygenist couldn’t of been any nicer as she explained to Nicky what everything was in the office, and then she cleaned his teeth. He loved the dentist, shortly after we left he asked if he can go back again, we have another appt in 6 months.
We’ve been moving furniture around the house, up the stairs and down the stairs over and over. We are emptying out what was the spare bedroom/exercise room so we can get ready to paint that room and move Nicky’s bedroom furniture in it. I emptied his toy room out to Mikes office area and the family room so I could turn that into the excerise room. His old bedroom will be emptied out so we can paint that something real funky and that will be his play room, which will mean moving all the toys from downstairs to upstairs. Then we can paint our bedroom and then it’s off to the bathroom to strip the wallpaper and remove the carpeting upstairs, then we will move to the first floor and all this I would love to have done by the beginning of summer…I better tell Mike of the plan.
We had a short taste of spring last week and today it’s back to being cold again, not sure if I ever mentioned this but I’m not a fan of the cold. Now my friend Ben in Virginia was complaining how warm it was there and that his allergies were acting up and here we are today back in the 30’s. Although Ben did get snow last week and he was thrilled to death about it, everything closed down, he enojoyed the day off watching the snow.
I had my midterm exam in macro economics this past week. It sucked real bad. It was hours of endless torture. It was like telling a blind man to turn left at the 3rd cactus in the Sahara. As you can guess I have nothing good to say about it what so ever; I hope I passed.
I called mom on Saturday afternoon, after I emailed my exam, and asked her if she wouldn’t mind watching Nicky that night while we went out to grab a quick bite to eat and see a movie; she said would be thrilled to do it, she even wanted him to stay over night but we weren’t ready for that one. I think we are getting closer to that step and his sleep overs will start.
We are both dieting (again and forever) so we stopped off at Boston Market. Mike is doing low carb (and amazingly well) and I’m doing the low fat foods. One thing that neither of us should be eating is the corn bread so I let Mike talk me into leaving. I only ate half and it’s moist golden tenderness is still singing to me.
After dinner we went to see “Confessions of a Shopaholic” I read the book and the movie was just as good, although I wish someone told me this was a tween movie, all those giggley little girls in the theater was rather disturbing. But like I said the movie was great and I give it two thumbs up. If you liked, “Ugly Betty,” “Devil Wears Prada,” “Project Runway” then you will definatly like this movie.
We stopped at the Bachelor Forum after the movie for a drink, that was boring so we went for a drive down to the Charlotte Beach. We drove and talked and talked and drove and then picked up Nicholas who was in his pj’s watching Scooby Doo and playing with Grandma. He must of had a great time because on Sunday he didn’t wake up until after 9am, I think we’re sending him to Grandmas again soon.
Well that’s it. Ta for now.
