December 16, 2008 - The holidays seem to be going a bit smooth this year as opposed to previous years, not sure if it was because we cut back a little bit on each other or because we are unorganized and our minds failed us…I like to think it’s the first and not the later. We did cut back on buying for each other this year and decided we would each get the iPhone; I’ve already been accused of being an iPod whore, but the phone, it’s wonderful, I have been downloading applications like crazy, for example I can use it as a level…you never know when your out and need to level something…ok that one might have been a dumb one to get. But the GPS and music stations are great…I am so sold on this one. It took Mike a few months of talking me into it. I am slowly becoming an Apple person and have even been checking out the Mac’s.
The new house is great and we absolutely love it…ba da da da da I’m lovin’ it!!!! The neighbors are super nice and have come over to welcome us into the area, there are a ton of kids that are Nicks age that he will be able to play with and go to school with as well. A couple of weeks ago Santa was in the area on the fire truck and would stop at one house on each street, which happened to be three doors up from us and after meeting with Santa we were invited in for the party, Nicky was loving it he got to play with a bunch of new kids and we were loving it because we got to mingle with a bunch of adults. This place is not only a huge difference but also an improvement from the last neighborhood.
We decided a few weeks ago that we needed to switch Nicky to a new preschool in the area and after researching a couple we made our decision on one that is a mile up the road, the school is inside the JCC and offers swimming twice a week, play gym, outdoor play all year long, a great learning program teaching them math, reading and science, as well as problem solving. This preschool gets him ready for when he starts school so the adjustment will be minimal. Speaking of adjustment, we are assuming he must have not liked his last school too much because when we started the new school there was no issue of leaving the old one. He actually looks forward to going here, I think because each day offers a different physical activity he also took right away to a couple of kids and they to him.
We received a purchase offer that we accepted for the house on Culver Rd and are due to close on that one by the end of the year, we are very happy about that one. With our busy schedules we don’t have time for two houses and not to mention we didn’t really care a whole lot for being a landlord, not that there was anything to it; but we always agree that it’s better to at least say you tried something before deciding you didn’t like it.
Nicky visited with Santa this past Sunday. He was rather nervous about it when we went the week before and decided to try it again another day. This time I had mentioned to Nicky we never asked Santa what kind of cookies he wanted us to leave him and that we should ask him, this got his curiosity peaked. We went over to Santa’s area knelt along the side to watch the other kids sit on his lap to see how easy it was, then Santa looked over at Nicky he winked and waved, Nick waved back and that gave him the courage he needed so he ran to stand in line. It was a great experience for him and us and we will be leaving Santa some peanut butter cookies…and those are our favorite.
We reverted to an old tradition of ours that we haven’t done in probably way over 10 years by buying that large 30 pound box of candy that costs only $5.00, you know the one it’s called Masterpiece, it’s kind of gross chocolate but when its all there is in the house of course then it tastes good (well maybe good is too strong a word it’s alright). This past Saturday Mike and Nicky made Christmas cookies and later that evening we all decorated them and of course we have to taste test them to make sure they were good and mmm mmmm mmmm they were real yummy…it’s a good thing we joined the JCC we’ll need to exercise off all the cookies we’ve been eating lately.
This Saturday evening we are having an informal get together at our house with my family which should be a lot of fun. On Christmas Day we are having Mike’s family over for dinner and open presents, we’ll probably go to my families house around 6PM or so to continue the merry making…phew I’m tired already thinking about it.
I’m sure I probably won’t be writing anymore before the year is out so please have a happy, safe, and wonderful holiday season.
