June 10, 2008 - Didn’t realize it’s been so long since I wrote anything. Time keeps flying too quickly.

The temperatures here have been crazy this past week, but in a good way it’s been in the mid to high 90’s and real humid, I loved it. It made me miss living in Florida…ahhh the wonderful memories we had there and there were a lot of them.

Good news, on May 15th, Mike’s birthday, California ruled in favor of gay marriage and more good news in New York the new Governor decided that gay marriage would have to be recognized from other states and countries here. Now the downside, the bad news in November in California there will be an initiative on the ballot to overturn the supreme court ruling, which would then dissolve all marriages between gay and lesbian couples from June to November, what kind of shit is that? So I have decided that if that does happen that I will in turn not acknowledge any heterosexual weddings, regardless of who it is until everyone in this country can get married. Now we know a number of heterosexual couples that are also refusing to get married until everyone has the civil right to get married as well. So all the right wings, republicans, and Christian groups who think that homosexuals are going to screw up the country need to realize that they have already done that for us…am I a democrat? Why yes I am and a very liberal one at that…ok enough of my soap box.

Let’s see we went to NYC over Memorial weekend and had a blast. We had the whole trip pretty well planned out as to where we were going and what we planned on seeing. We stayed at the Sheraton in Weehawken and probably one of the best locales to stay, about 20 out the front door was the waterway to board the ferry to go to NYC. We had a perfect view of the skyline.

We got in about 3 in the afternoon on Friday (05/23) dropped the luggage in the room and ran to catch the ferry. The ferry left off at the docks near 34th Street so from there we walked to Greenwich Village (we thought of walking to Ground Zero but that will be the next trip). We walked to The Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street. If your straight that doesn’t mean anything to you, but The Stonewall Inn is like the turning stone for gay liberation (here’s a link to read about it http://stonewall-place.com/). We of course then had to stop for pizza which was the best ever. From there we walked back over to 34th St and went to K-Mart, with hopes to run into Martha…no luck maybe the next trip. After that we just went back to the hotel and went swimming and relaxed because we would be doing  a ton of walking that weekend.

On Saturday morning Nicky jumped out of bed in his room and ran to ours screaming “are we going on the boat today?” “Yes we are,” I said. “Then get up we have to go” he loved the ferry ride it was one of his highlights. So after we were forced out of bed and got ready we got back on the ferry to go spend the day in Central Park. We stopped for breakfast in the park and then went on to the Central Park Zoo and then to the Children’s Zoo in the park. We have been reading Nicky a book called “And Tango Makes Three” which is true story of a penguin, named Tango that was born in the Central Park Zoo and was raised by two male penguin’s named Roy and Silo, so Nicky was very excited to see them and we were excited to be able to give him an association with his life as well, you’d have to read the book to really understand more. We then spent some time at the playground and then went on to go shopping to Macy’s of course…I felt like I died and went to shoppers heaven, I love Macy’s and have often said when I die I want to be stuffed and be a mannequin in the middle of the store, wearing all the latest fashion of course.

Sunday was a great day too we went to the Museum of Natural History to see the dinosaurs Nick loves them and so do I. After spending a number of hours there we decided it was time for lunch and to run around in the playground, which is what we did. We walked around the reservoir and practically what seemed like the whole park. While there we went to FAO Schwartz (we went a couple of years ago but Nicky slept through it, he was awake this time), Times Square and pretty much a lot of the upper side of Manhattan. Obviously we didn’t see the whole thing.

We were going to go back for the 4th of July weekend but we are getting the house painting so we’ll hope to get back there before the end of summer. With any luck after we finish school (5 more long years) we’ll be residing there, but that’s another story.

Nicky is quickly on his way to being potty trained, or at least in my mind he is. I finally got brave over the weekend and took him out of the house with underwear and not training pants. I’m happy to report that we had no accidents at all…YEAH for Nicky!!!

Like I said earlier we are having the house painted and when I got home last night they had the house primed and wow what a huge difference. It actually started to look clean. Unfortunately after that is finished comes our labor we have build two porches, replace some doors, move some of the paver stones and basically work like dogs, now you know why we aren’t going to NYC in July.

Starting next week (06/16) my mom will be watching Nicky one day a week probably on Monday’s. Nicky will love that as he sees Grandma as his best friend. Around our house we are told that grandma can do no wrong, not in those exact words but close enough. Anyway I know that it will be good for him and for mom, for some reason our time seems more and more limited lately and not sure why so this will be a great chance for bonding.

Well have a great day!! Ciao!
