April 30, 2008 - A couple stories as to why it’s important to watch what is said in front of children, read on.

I was giving Nicky a bath the other night and one thing he hates is when I rinse his hair. So as normal I was rinsing his hair and then putting in the shampoo only to rinse it again, when he yells out “Papa, stop you’re making me nervous.” Well this came about because I always tell him he needs to stop what he’s doing because he’s making daddy nervous.

Nicky was talking on his toy phone on Saturday when I looked at his and said “come on Nicky we need to get dressed now.” His reply in a firm voice and holds his hand up to me and says “you need to be quiet now I’m on the phone,” then turns and continues his conversation. I couldn’t believe it, well that is something that Mikie will usually tell him.

We had a short talk about God last night as well. At dinner, Mike was tricking Nicky into eating his food so each time the fork came up empty Mike would say “God, my food is gone” everyone would laugh and this pushed him along to eat. So later in the evening he had asked me who God was, forgetting about dinner I asked him who he heard it from and he told me Daddy (I needed to know the who, so I knew what I was in for before answering). So I gave him a very simple answer that some people believe in God and some don’t and those that do believe in God it helps them get by in life, that made him happy and he said ok. This only made me realize that there a whole bunch of conversations that will be coming in the future. As far as religion is concerned we are not going to teach him about one faith but many as there are so many out there, we are not religious by any means and decided we didn’t want to raise him in any type of religion. After all most churches teach against homosexuality so am I suppose to raise him with something that condemns and degrades his parents.

April 29, 2008 - Happy 3rd Birthday Nicky!!!! These 3 years have totally flown by and can’t believe the amount of changes that have taken place and so rapidly. Nicky also shares his birthday with Susie, so happy birthday to her today!!!!

Last night I put Nicky to bed; shortly after Mike had left for work, Nick opens his bedroom door walk out and closes it. In one arm is Diego and the other arm is Horton as he walks by me to go to my bedroom. I asked him what he was doing, he told me he was going to sleep in my bed. I thought well it is your birthday week so go ahead. It wasn’t until the next morning I realized why. Mike had wrapped his present and showed it to him and told Nick he had to wait until his birthday to open it. Anyway I woke up Nicky and told him it was his birthday, well that woke him up in a hurry, he threw his hands up and clapped and said “Happy Birthday Papa. Can I have my present now?” I told him I didn’t know where Daddy had put it (which was true), then he takes his finger and points to the top of the wardrobe closet, low and behold there it was. So that explained why he wanted to sleep in my room; he kept a night watch on his present.

On Saturday (04/26) we had a party for Nicky’s third birthday at Chuck E. Cheese. Nicky seemed to have a great time. Grandma spent a lot of the time with Nicky playing the games and of course he loved every minute of that, Grandma appears to be his best friend. There were about 25 people there and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. We were allowed to have the party area for 90 minutes, but when it appeared that we were going to be running over I asked the server if it was alright if we stayed just a bit longer and she told us that they weren’t having anymore parties so we could stay as long as we wanted to, that worked out great so the party that started at 2PM and was suppose to end at 3:30 actually ended at 5:30.

Carl had back surgery this past week, spoke with him today and he seems to be doing much better, he came home on Saturday morning (04/26). We’ll stop be and see him this week.

On April 08th we had a couple of surprise guest show up, it was Ben and Brian. We haven’t seen them in quite a few years. I think the last time we saw them was when Mike and I went to < ?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags” />Washington DC for the Gay Rights March on DC and I think that was like 2000. We had gone to Virginia to stay with them but then wound up finding a hotel in DC, the ride back and forth from their house was kind of long and finding parking in DC was crazy, how wild I had almost forgotten all about that march it was a blast we had such a great time and if I remember Clinton was still in office. A minivan pulled into the driveway and saw two people get out and that’s when I recognized Ben. It was so cool to catch up and see how much has changed with everyone. They decided not to call but instead to show up and surprise us and that they did. They are planning a trip back here in July so we will see them then.

We have planned a trip to NYC for Memorial weekend we are going up on a Friday morning and will be back home on that Monday. We are really looking forward to it as we are making a bunch of plans to spend some time in Central Park visiting the zoo and the museum and a bunch of other things and of course this time will include a trip to Macy’s…as you know it is my favorite store, when I die I want to be buried there in the men’s department near the clearance racks.

Oh well that’s it for now. More to come.

April 06, 2008 - I can’t believe it; it’s finally here, well almost. Two more weeks left of class and then we are done. Yippee! I was figuring out how much longer we have to go at this rate and found it was going to take us 5 more years…which of course seems like a lifetime so we might take some summer classes this year to speed things up a bit, but we’ll see what happens. My ultimate goal was to finish before Nicky started school, and he starts in two years I guess my calculations were off a tad.

Took Nicky to see his first movie on Saturday (03/29/08), we saw “Horton Hears a Who” and he absolutely loved it. He sat in his chair with his tiny hands folded for most of the movie. We brought my mom with us, who made sure that Nicky had enough snacks during the movie. He also had enough sense or is it nerve to look over at me when I was talking and put his finger over his lips and gave a disgusted “shhhhhh” I swear Mike put him up to that one.

Spring is slowly starting to peak it new born head around the corner, some of the trees are starting to bud and soon there will be a bountiful of colors and a fresh sweet smell lingering in the air…I can’t wait.

I made some serious plans for the school break, so all I need is the drive to accomplish it, which is what I’ve been lacking. I wrote an outline for a children’s book, and I need to sit down and actually put it all together so I can send it out. It’s a book about a gay couple adopting a baby boy as told by the child. You see we’re at that stage where we are starting to explain to Nicky that he is adopted and the selection of books out there are rather slim so this might just be a good market for me. My trouble is I procrastinate and get lazy so this book has been in my mind for a number of years and that’s why I say I still need the drive. Ok enough about that.

My new thing lately is I have to do something that is out of my comfort zone or else I’ll never forge ahead and will always be stuck in a routine of boredom. I don’t expect many people to understand that one, heck I’m not even sure if I do sometimes. Don’t get me wring I’m in no way going to scale the Empire State Bldg.

Here’s a good example though, I miss my life in California or at least the routine that we had. We had our routines down pat and there was time for everything we needed to do, “needed” being the key word.

Since being here our routines have been like a dust cloud that is just starting to settle and land in place, but I’m not too sure I want to be in any particular routine again. This bit of chaos and spontaneity that we’ve been experiencing lately seems to keep things going with a younger feeling. Of course we do have certain responsibilities in our lives that need to be routine but for the most part it’s more enjoyable this way.

I saw this Barbara Walters special the other night about “Can We Live to Be 150″ it was so good and listening to some of the folks talking about how technology is making strides to make people live longer and of course the whole eat right and exercise and think positive. My gosh it was so inspiring that it made you realize that life is too short to be in a routine so that added to what I’ve been changing I feel inspired.

We have this book called “The Secret” I haven’t read it but know plenty of folks that have and it’s about positive thinking, basically think positively and positive things will happen, so that is one more task during my school break is to read this book.

I’ve been contemplating if I want to take Nicky to DC for a long weekend this spring, I wanted to take him to the zoo and the museum to see the dinosaurs (his favorite) for his birthaday. Speaking of which his 3rd birthday is coming up the 29th of April and we are planning on having his party at Chuck E. Cheese on the 26th at 2PM so it will be us and about 30 relatives…What’s that you say “30?” Why yes we have a huge family and those are just the immediate family, the winters must have been cold for our parents.

I just downloaded Colton Fords new CD “Tug of War” and it’s an excellent dance album, I am so over Amy Winehouse this week.

Well ta for now!
